A House Portrait from Springfield, New Jersey

by Jennifer Skopp

Jennifer Skopp was commissioned to create this Watercolor House Portrait for a woman to give to her friend, who was leaving her house in Springfield, New Jersey and moving back to California.

This split-level house with yellow-ochre siding has orange shutters. The roof has hints of grays, reddish-browns, and golden yellow. There are two garages side by side on the left side of the house, with white doors. The front entrance is in the center of the house. There is an overhang running from the end of the left side of the house to the end of the main entrance area. As a result, the main entrance area is always in the shade. Two double windows are on the top floor. The right side has a large window that consists of four vertical windows. That large window is in the living room.

To the left and front of the main entrance is a small garden with a very small tree. The hanging branches reminded Jennifer of a Weeping Willow tree. On the right side of the front door, there is a long garden area that continues to the end of right side of the house. It consists of a wide variety of bushes, shrubs and flowers. Some of them looked like topiary and were sculpted by the owner. The gardens directly in front of the house have a low brick border that is rounded when it is closest to the front door. There is another circular garden area on the right side of the lawn.

Jennifer included a squirrel on the lawn eating an acorn, just to add some cuteness to the House Portrait.
