A House Portrait from Bethel, Connecticut

by Jennifer Skopp

A woman commissioned Jennifer Skopp to create two Watercolor House Portraits to be Christmas presents. When her son’s girlfriend saw the work, she decided that a House Portrait would be perfect to give to her parents for Christmas.

The young woman’s dad bought this Tudor House in Bethel, Connecticut many years ago. At the time, the house was painted all white. Her dad worked for years on the house to restore it to its original state.

Some parts of this complicated house are three floors and some are two. There are four sections of the house that have  Gable, gray roofs. The tallest part of the house is a turret with a four-sided Pyramid roof.

The house is painted yellow ochre. The horizontal and vertical trim lines, that run along the corners of the house, and around the windows and doors, are painted Hunter Green. The covered porch is in the front, closest to the street. The four-sided columns on the porch are also painted Hunter Green. Some of the designs are accented with dark red.

There is a small building to the left of the house that is painted the same colors as the house. It might be a shed, where the dad keeps his tools. There is a shallow lawn in front of the house and grass on the right side. The large, wide driveway is on the left side of the house.

This house was the most complicated one that Jennifer ever did a House Portrait for, but she welcomed the challenge because it was such a spectacular house. Jennifer can’t resist the details!

The client’s parents loved it!
