A House Portrait from Hazlet, New Jersey

by Jennifer Skopp

This Watercolor House Portrait of a Hazlet, New Jersey home, by Jennifer Skopp, was commissioned by a realtor to be a closing gift to give to his client.

This two-story house has light gray siding and darker gray shutters. There are three windows in the front of the house on the second floor. The ground floor has two windows and the white front door with a white frame. Above and behind the garage is a smaller section of the house with a short, horizontal window.

There is an attached garage on the right side with a white door. There is a short, curved path that leads from the front door to the driveway. A standing, white, old-fashioned mailbox is located close to the main entrance and inserted into a patch of pebbles to the right of the path. There is a beautiful Maple tree to the right of the garage that is a little taller than the house. Behind the Maple tree is a wrought iron gate that leads to the backyard. There are tall trees behind the house.

The photograph that Jennifer worked from showed shrubs in the garden that were various shades of green, but Jennifer added more colorful flowers.

Instead of containing the House Portrait in a rectangle, Jennifer left the bottom straight with curved corners and changed the top of the painting to two curved shapes with a tall Evergreen bush popping up in between.
