A House Portrait from Peekskill, New York

by Jennifer Skopp

Jennifer Skopp was hired to paint this Watercolor House Portrait for someone who wanted to give a very special housewarming gift, to the new owner of this Peekskill, New York home. This old house was in very poor condition and the owner had it completely renovated.

This white Victorian house has a black Mansard roof with three dormer windows. The window trims above each side window are curved. The one in the center is a pediment window.

The second floor has three windows. The windows on each side have black shutters, but the center window does not. Above all three windows are colonial moldings with dentils.

The first floor has a covered porch that is wider than the entire width of the house. The railing is black wrought iron. There are white, rectangular columns that hold up the roof above the porch.

The front entrance is in the center of the house. The door has a long, vertical window and there are two tall, very narrow windows on the two panels on each side. Above the door is a wide window that is the same width as the front door and its side panels. There are two tall windows with shutters on each side of the door. All the five light fixtures on the porch are black. The largest one hangs in the center from the top of the porch.

There are six gray and yellow ochre colored stone steps that lead to the front entrance. The same kind of stones are on the side of the steps and in front of lawn, separating the property from the sidewalk.

There are shrubs and bushes in front of the porch. Jennifer added more variety and color to the ones she painted. She painted a large hydrangea in bloom on the left side of the front lawn. Jennifer simplified the shapes and stylized the trees in the background. She rounded the corners of the bottom of the painting. The top of the House Painting has a border with curvy lines.
