A House Portrait from Scotch Plains, New Jersey

by Jennifer Skopp

A realtor commissioned Jennifer Skopp to create this Watercolor House Portrait to be a closing gift.

This split-level home with white siding, is in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. The shutters are black and the shingles of the roof are gray. There is a red brick chimney, where the top part is visible on the roof and the bottom is showing on the ground level of the outside of the house. There is a long path in the middle of a deep lawn in front of the house.

Jennifer stylized the surrounding trees, bushes, clouds and sky by simplifying and exaggerating circular shapes. She worked from a photograph of this house, that looks like it was taken during the winter, so there was nothing in bloom. Jennifer made up all the landscaping in the House Portrait. She painted different kinds of flowers with various purples.
