A House Portrait of a Mid-Century Modern Home

by Jennifer Skopp

Jennifer Skopp lives in Springfield New Jersey and many of the houses have a similar look. To add a different style of architecture to her portfolio, she painted a Watercolor House Portrait of a Mid-Century Modern home.

Jennifer worked from several images of Mid-Century Modern houses and designed a composite of several of them.

Mid-Century Modern homes have mostly horizon and vertical lines. Sometimes the flat roofs are on an angle. Jennifer included only one roof that is angled. The large windows are divided into one vertical rectangle, several horizontal rectangles and some have one square.

Mid-Century Modern homes have a variety of surfaces on the exteriors. This house has some sections with light wood siding that is positioned vertically. Some exteriors in this house are painted white, some gray and other sections have multicolored bricks with grays, golds and brick reds.

There is a horizontal path in front of the house that leads to the backyard on one side and the driveway on the other side. A narrow rock garden runs parallel to the path. There is a lawn in front of the rock garden. Jennifer painted various large rocks and short shrubs on the strip of rock garden. She also painted flowers bordering the front and left side of the house.

To enter the house, there are two steps that lead to the main entrance. There is a large, reddish wood door that has five horizontal windows running vertically. A narrow, vertical window is placed to the left of the front door. A flat roof is above the main entrance to keep the owners dry in the rain.

Jennifer enjoyed being architect for the day!
