A House Portrait from Springfield, New Jersey
by Jennifer Skopp
Jennifer Skopp and the owner of this home both live in Springfield, New Jersey. The owner contacted Jennifer because he said that they needed more art on their wall.
He sent Jennifer photos of his house. In the middle of working on this piece, she noticed that she needed more visual information. Jennifer took a short ride to the house and photographed what she needed.
Jennifer discussed with the client how she could approach creating this Watercolor House Portrait. Either everything could be contained in a rectangle or she could make it more playful, with various simplified shapes and the outline of the House Portrait could be irregular. The client agreed to the more playful approach. He also emphasized that he wanted to include his dog in the window, which Jennifer did.
This is a wide house which has two stories. There is a formal entrance with two white columns and a pediment. The door is dark brown with a stained-glass window. There’s a semi-circle shaped window above the door. The top 2/3 of the house is beige and the bottom 1/3 is made up of stones that are multi-colored and are the size of bricks. The windows on the top level of the house are taller than the windows on the bottom level. The roof is a brick-red color and there is a chimney on the right side of the roof.
The whole width of the house is lined with beautiful flowers, shrubs and ornamental grasses. There is a circular cluster of shrubs, flowers, and a small tree surrounded by large stones.
The client and his wife said that they love the House Portrait and get compliments on it all the time.
